Pre-surgery preparation

Preparation

For any surgical intervention at the hip whether the surgery is arthroscopic or open surgery preparation and planning prior to and post surgery is key to a successful outcome. This preparation will also be a major factor in how quickly you recover from surgery.

Prehabilitation

Sports people do prehabilitation to try and prevent injury before it happens. This usually involves a range of strengthening and mobility exercises to protect the muscles and joints.

This principle can be applied to individuals waiting to have orthopaedic surgery. It may be counterintuitive to be partaking in exercise awaiting an operation to resolve joint pain. However the stronger you are prior to surgery the more able you are to cope with the surgery and the quicker you will recover.
